Yunus Centre to Sign Agreement with Brazilian Government
As a follow up of Professor Muhammad Yunus's meeting with President Dilma Rousseff of Brazil, Ambassador Maria Edileuza Fontenele Reis, Under-Secretary General of the Brazilian Ministry of External Relations, paid a visit to Yunus Centre yesterday at Mirpur and met with Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus to discuss range of future collaborations with the Government of Brazil. Professor Yunus visited Brazil last month where President Dilma showed keen interest in Social Business and expressed her desire to introduce Social Business to solve some of the major social problems of Brazil.

Ambassador Reis discussed with Professor Yunus about the International Ibiza Fund of Brazil and sought his advice on ways to collaborate internationally with Professor Yunus on the use of this fund. This fund is already operating in Brazil, India and South Africa. In addition to this, she proposed that Ministry of Social Development sign an agreement with the Yunus Centre outlining collaborations in creating social businesses in Brazil. Professor Yunus and Ambassador Reis also discussed Brazilian government's intention to start an Institute of Social Business in one of Brazil's leading universities.

Ambassador Reis is the senior most diplomat responsible for matters pertaining to Asia with the Ministry of External Relations of Brazil.

President Dilma Rousseff interested in bringing Social Business to Brazil
Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus met Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff at the Presidential Palace in the capital of Brazil, Brasilia, on 25th of May 2011. The meeting lasted for 90 minutes.

During the meeting, Professor Yunus explained how the concept of Social Business can be adopted in Brazil to solve the social problems that afflict Brazilian society. President Rousseff showed a keen interest in Social Business; and she expressed her desire to know more on how this concept can be adopted to Brazil. Towards this, she designated two of her ministers to hold separate meetings with Professor Yunus on 27th May, to work out an action plan on implementing Social Business concepts in Brazil.

The President liked the idea of a highly nutritious yogurt for malnourished children and urged Professor Yunus to implement a similar project in Brazil so that the yogurt could be included in the school lunch program for children in Brazil.

President Rousseff also announced that she will encourage a leading Brazilian university to set up an Institute of Social Business, with the aim of conducting research into and to teach Social Business to its students. Professor Yunus invited President Rousseff to come to the Global Social Business Summit to be held in Vienna, Austria this November 2011; the President graciously accepted the invitation.

President Rousseff appointed a high powered committee to follow up on the meeting with Professor Yunus. The meeting was attended amongst others, by the Brazilian Minister for Health and the Executive Vice-President of Banco do Brazil, the bank which coordinates microfinance programs in Brazil.

Professor Yunus was in Brazil for 3 days from the 24th to the 27th to meet with the President, and to attend a conference in Belo Horizonte, in the Southeastern region of Brazil.

 
Professor Yunus appears on Frost Over the World
Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, on 24th May 2011, appeared on the Frost Over the World show, hosted by renowned journalist David Frost.

Professor Yunus discussed his vision on how Social Business can be used to bring lasting solutions to social problems in Bangladesh, the UK and around the world.

Throughout his long media career, David Frost has interviewed many personalities from across the world. He first came to prominence worldwide with his tribute to John F. Kennedy in 1963.

Professor Yunus' appearance on Frost Over the World will be aired on Al Jazeera at 0200 and at 1800 BST on Saturday and rebroadcasted on Sunday at 0700 and 1200 BST.
